Retired Publicist

I was the former publicist for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Marketing Manager for Downstage Theatre Company, amongst other work. I spent many years in this industry, beginning in advertising work and then progressing to publicity born of my enthusiasm for music and theatre.

On returning to Auckland from many years away I heard about ASO from musician friends, went to a concert and was bowled over by the level of playing and applied to join there and then. I love every aspect of ASO - the wonderful variety of music played, a conductor who makes rehearsal attendance exciting and enormously pleasurable and the delightful and friendly fellow musicians. Playing in the ASO is to me the greatest privilege and joy. My favourite ASO memory is playing at an outdoor Christmas concert and while the lovely female soloist sang "Oh Holy Night" a handsome young man from Sole Mio joined in with her on stage (we later found out it was her relative/cousin) . I glanced up and two swallows swooped low under the canopy of the stage against the darkening sky. A magic moment.

I read extensively - having owned a second-hand bookshop my home is a constant source of reading material ! I enjoy singing and am auditioning for Auckland Choral at the moment. I am involved with animal welfare - past board member of Wellington SPCA, SAFE convenor and had my own organisation (Kapiti Animal Welfare Society). Walking and caring for my rescue dog Milly - part miniature schnauzer, part excocet missile (according to my late husband)- brings me much happiness.
